DiggYep, you heard it right. Digg traffic or Digg efffect is very bad for your site/blog. Some of my sites have hit Digg frontpage quite a few times and the traffic was too much, was crap. My site Winkk has hit Digg frontpage about 4 or 5 times and then it got banned! If you check Diggitlive’s alexa rank then you’ll notice a spike in traffic during the last year, that’s due to Digg effect, yeah the site got banned anyways. Today I’ll tell you why it’s not good for your site. If StumbleUpon traffic is compared to Digg traffic, StumbleUpon traffic will stand out first. I also wrote some tips that can help to get enormous traffic from StumbleUpon.

Your hosting might go down
It’s not made for a non-dedicated server, even a VPS can’t handle it easily. Your site receives traffic only for a limited time, up-to 24-48 hours. Your server will most probably go down. I owned a dedicated server for a few months and it was able to stay up even due to digg effect, it cost me $194/month though!

Your site might get BANNED
Digg bans site if a site’s articles are submitted daily and they make to the frontpage, they don’t ban big guys like CNET. If a new member submits his/her site’s articles often and they make to frontpage, the site will get banned!

Traffic is useless
Traffic remains for less than 48 hours and there are chances for your server to even go down. The traffic is useless, you might be able to get a handful of subscribers but in my case i didn’t got any. No visitor returns back.

Earnings are low
Even if you get a lot of visitors you won’t earn much money, earnings also depend upon niche. If you place too many ads above the fold then your story might get buried, Digg users don’t like advertisements.

Story gets FLAMED with comments
Your story gets FLAMED with many comments and it looks like a total choas. Your story stops appearing from frontpage if it gets buried heavily.

What are your comments about it? Do you think Digg effect is good/bad?

Stumble it!

Agree with you there. I would prefer StumbleUpon over digg any day !
