Entrecard : New blogs are attacked!I added Entrecard on DiggItLive a few days ago and on the first day within 1 hour my ad queue was full! There are some blogs out there in Entrecard that just apply for advert on new blogs in Entrecard even when their blog is not relevant to get cheap traffic but they do not know that they ain’t going to get any traffic. Your widget also gets full with non-relevant adverts.

I added Entrecard to my blog Winkk a few minutes ago and a blog applied for advertising on my widget within 1 minute and it was not relevant, so i rejected it. And got ad queue full within 30 mins!

Even if you visit “Most Recent” blogs in Entrecard you will find most of them ad queue full! This way the blogs that are relevant miss the chance of advertising in those blogs. Even when i was looking for some new relevant blogs to advertise on most of them had ad queue full and the rest were not relevant.

There is nothing that can be done about this except to disallow advertising on new blogs and only allow advertising after 1-2 days have passed. Graham should do something about this.

Also i have seen some sites which are parked on sedo, etc. and many spam sites too.

Some steps that can be taken:

My piece of advice to new blogs: Do not accept non-relevant advertisements for your widget and only accept relevant. That way the older advertisers will advertise on your widget more often like in mine. :)

Hi… I’m glad you’re writing about Entrecard but I think you might have raised the alarm just a bit too soon. Blogs aren’t literally attacked in any way that should make people feel threatened. What you describe is but nothing compared to the fruits to come.

I wrote a bunch about things like this just so new-comers wouldn’t be so overwhelmed. The fact is, it doesn’t matter what you get for an advert your first week. If we’re to be honest about it, even though we’re gunning for “relevant” ads, such ads are what make our visitors click away.

So it’s really not such a bad thing to have irrelevant ads the first weeks or so as long as they are not offensive or truly unsightly.

In fact, even if your blog is about potato farming, for example, potato farmers might still also be cat lovers… so an ad about cats isn’t going to be totally irrelevant to the REALITY of the visitors that visit.

It’s actually an nice gesture to give some small site an early shot at inexpensive advertising even if they’re not entirely relevant.

Anyways, I wish you the best on Entrecard. Here is a link directly to 10 of my tips that everyone has found very useful… every last one, actually.

I don’t think disallowing advertising for new blogs is a good idea - it’s quite a disincentive to join EC in my opinion if you’re gonna have to wait for a certain period before you can accept ads.

However, I do agree with what you’re saying in that new blog owners should be encouraged to hold on a bit and accept only relevant sites - encouraged, not forced! And as for you comment about the parked sites, I haven’t come across any but yeah, you should be able to flag such sites as spam until they are reviewed.

Oddly enough my experience of Entrecard dropping was similar. When I first submitted my blog to Entrecard, I got a whole lot of random drive-by Entrecard droppers (and ad placements too of course), which drove my ad price up a whole lot really fast, but then it dropped back down again after a few days as less people came to drop cards.
