Are you an international Adsense publisher and want to make some extra money off their Google Adsense referral? Then i must say that you shouldn’t think of it because Google is stopping Adsense referrals outside of North America, Latin America, and Japan! So it’s a sad news for most of the international publishers out there. The firefox referral and other referrals will still be there for all publishers, only the Adsense referral has been disabled for International publishers.
Anyways, i am not really feeling sad! I mean it! Because i don’t use Google Adsense referral unit. :-P

The option for generating Google Adsense referral button will disappear for International publishers by the end of January, 2008. So i guess it’s time for publishers to start removing Google Adsense referral program from their sites and replace the Adsense referral program button with other products.

You can still generate referrals for the other products listed under the ‘Referrals’ section of your AdSense Setup tab like the Google Pack, Firefox etc.

Reduced Referral income for Non-International publishers, North America, Latin America, and Japan :

Now, A referred user who reaches $100 within 180 days of signing up and who removes all payments holds before the change occurs will generate earnings of $250 for the referring publisher. Any referred user who meets this conversion criteria after the change occurs will only generate $100 in earnings for the referring publisher. In addition, the $5 bonus will be removed at that time.

Now what made them think to remove Adsense referral for International publisher is they think that those regions where not doing so well.

The Inside Adsense blog says:

“For publishers not located in any of the three regions detailed above, we’ll soon be retiring referrals promoting AdSense. We’ve found that this referral product has not performed as well as we had hoped in these regions. Again, please keep in mind that you can still generate referrals for the other products listed under the ‘Referrals’ section of your AdSense Setup tab.”

What can we do about this?
Nothing, really. :-P

Good luck everyone with Adsense earnings. ;-)

Stumble it!
